Meet The Horses
Our mission is to nurture body, mind and spirit through God, horses and our farm.
DOB: 2006
Gathered: 1-7-2009
Breed: American Mustang
Hello, I am a Mustang and was gathered by the Bureau of Land Management in Bald Mountain Nevada in 2009. As “Boss Mare” I see to it that we all do our jobs. I have extensive training and take great delight in teaching people groundwork. Over the past few years I have developed asthma and allergies that can be pretty rough at times. I take daily medications and supplements and eat alfalfa cubes or fresh pasture instead of hay to keep my flare ups down. Also, my hooves don’t grow very fast, so when the weather gets warm, I get a fancy set of front shoes to help keep me sound!
SPARROW’S WISH LIST:
Registered Name: Hydway PSJ Eglsun
DOB: 5-25-96
Breed: Arabian/Appaloosa
You can just call me RES. I am the oldest member of the herd. I think I am the wisest too! I have been here since I was 2 years old, so I have helped build the programs here and have seen a lot of changes over the years. I am partially retired, but I still help out with teaching people grooming and groundwork. My ancestors were some of the horses of the Native Americans and were very important in keeping the Appaloosa breed from becoming extinct. In my later years I have developed some arthritis and need special feed and probiotics to help keep my digestive system at its best.
RES’S WISH LIST:
DOB: 2003
Breeds: Trakehner/Missouri Fox Trotter/Hanoverian
Hey there! I am a pretty chill guy and don’t get razzed up about much. I am also pretty versatile and am a good size for many people, so I get a real variety of jobs here at the farm. I am usually very healthy and require the normal maintenance, dental check, hoof trims, annual vet check and vaccines. Since I do a lot of different jobs here, sometimes I get sore. Time on the Theraplate, massages and chiropractic adjustments help me stay healthy.
SPIRIT’S WISH LIST:
DOB: 2012
Breed: Miniature Horse
Hello everyone. I am a miniature painted horse. Small but mighty! I can do everything those big horses do! Pearl is my BFF. She is just the right size for me to hang out with. Pearl and I do obstacles, and we like to teach people about grooming and groundwork. I love being groomed and pampered, especially because I have allergies and get itchy hives on my skin! Since I am a “mini” I am prone to Insulin Resistance and can’t eat the fresh grass that the big guys get. It looks so good but I know all the sugar in it would make me sick! So, Pearl and I have our own “mini” pasture and get special hay that helps us stay healthy.
SPRITE’S WISH LIST:
Registered Name: Perpetual Bar Mount
DOB: 4-2-2004
Breed: Registered Paint
I am usually a pretty quiet yet sensitive guy, however I like my routine. I tend to get nervous if my routine is different or if I don’t have my horse pals around. Since I am pretty sensitive, I am really good at picking up on human energy and emotions, which comes in very handy to help people build self-esteem. My sensitive nature has a downside too, it can cause stomach ulcers, which I have had in the past. I am happy to say I have been feeling pretty good since I started taking a supplement with my meals to help keep my stomach feeling good. I can do my jobs better if I feel good!
JACK’S WISH LIST:
Registered Name: PR Amy Poco Blues
DOB: 5-14-2018
Breed: Quarter Horse
I am a “no-drama” kind of girl. When things start getting a little dicey a steer clear! I like to be calm and peaceful. I can get nervous with new things but look to my mare friends for guidance and confidence in how to react. I also like to hang out with the mini’s. Pearl can be a little fiesty but Sprite is sweet, she likes to steer clear of the drama too! I am grateful that I am pretty healthy and don’t have some of the issues that the other horses have.
BAYLEE’S WISH LIST:
DOB: 2004
Breeds: Welsh Pony/Selle Francais/Fell Pony
All the horses here are great, but just between you and me, I am the best! I am loved by people of all ages, and I get along with all the other horses too. Mary Kay says my gold color makes me look like the treasure I really am. I am very hardy and healthy. I am what they call an “easy keeper” in the horse world. That means I can live off a little amount of food, but I can pack on the pounds pretty quick! Every once in a while I get injured, like this past winter, I gashed my face open on a pole in the pasture and needed staples! I am never going to live that one down with my buddys!
JOE PONY’S WISH LIST:
Registered Name: PR Lucky Buck Guy
DOB: 4-20-2020
Breed: Quarter Horse
I am the youngest in the herd. I came to OVS in Fall of 2020 when I was 6 months old. I am very sweet and kind, but I really like to play and goof off. The humans are trying to teach me good manners so I can do the important jobs that the big horses do. I am usually pretty laid back but for some reason at first fly spray was really scary to me, I am glad I got over that one! I am excited to learn new things all the time.
WAYLON’S WISH LIST:
Registered Name: PR Double Roan 019
DOB: 4-3-2012
Breed: Quarter Horse
Hi all, I love it here! I came from Arkansas to live with some of my siblings, Levi, Rosie, and Huck, although you can usually find me hanging out in the pasture with Levi, we are best friends. My kind and confident personality can be helpful to many people for grooming, groundwork and riding. I do struggle with allergies, arthritis and most recently reoccuring hoof abcesses. The humans are trying to get me to be healthy all the time so I can help more people.
EARL’S WISH LIST:
Registered Name: PR Super Deuce 007
DOB: 4-30-2012
Breed: Quarter Horse
I admit, I like to play tricks on people. I do lots of different horsemanship lessons. I make lessons a little more engaging by picking up cones or gently knocking over barrels when I think no one is looking. The instructors get frustrated with me, but I love making people laugh! During the warm weather months, I get horseshoes put on my front hooves to help my feet stay sound. I am what you would call flat footed, and the uneven ground can make my feet hurt. I also need bigger portions for my dinner to keep me in tip top shape, so I get some high fat supplements to help me keep my healthy figure!
LUCKY’S WISH LIST:
Registered Name: PR Diamond Roan 025
DOB: 4-16-2012
Breed: Hancock Quarter Horse
I am a real people horse. I love to greet anyone who comes in the pasture, and I really love to try to steal anything I can off of Mr. Soergel when he is trying to work in the pastures. I am learning to be brave on trails, but I really enjoy showing off my athleticism in the arena or ring. Overall, I am a pretty healthy guy, although I did have a severe colic a couple of years ago that landed me in the ICU at the equine hospital. We still don’t know what caused it, but I sure hope that never happens again!
HUCK’S WISH LIST:
Registered Name: PR Pince Blaze 006
DOB: 5-13-2012
Breed: Quarter Horse
Hey there! I am probably one of the most laid-back guys of the herd. Not a whole lot seems to ruffle my feathers…err, I mean hair. I do like to goof off with the other guys and love to play with the big ball in the arena or chew on my lead ropes when I get bored or nervous. I came here from Arkansas with Huck, but I am not a sibling to that whole crew (Huck, Levi, Rosie, Earl). I am fortunate to stay pretty healthy and require the normal maintenance that we all do- I hope I can keep it that way!
TOBY’S WISH LIST:
DOB: 7-8-2014
Breed: Miniature Horse/Shetland
Good things really do come in small packages, but believe me, I can hold my own when it comes to the big guys in the pasture. I don’t let anyone push me around! I am confident and sassy, in all the good ways of course! I had a rough start and fought through pneumonia when I was a year old. I have also had flare ups of Lyme’s disease and have to be careful I don’t develop laminitis from eating the green grass. I have overcome all these health challenges due to my fighting spirit!
MINI PEARL’S WISH LIST:
Registered Name: PR Roan Hancock 028
DOB: 4-30-2012
Breed: Hancock Quarter Horse
Hi, pardon me, but I’m a little shy. The humans say I am very smart and also pretty sensitive. I came here from Perryman Ranches in Arkansas like my siblings Earl, Huck and Rosie. Earl and I are the closest, we hang out together every day. I have had a hard time with stomach ulcers due to my sensitive personality, but I am taking a supplement that really helps me feel better. I need to stay healthy so I can do the important work that gets done here at OVS!
LEVI’S WISH LIST:
Registered Name: PR Driftin Six 015
DOB: 4-4-2012
Breed: Hancock Quarter Horse
I am a beautiful blue roan quarter horse mare from a ranch in Arkansas. I am sweet and kind and love to be groomed and pampered. Sometimes I get pushed around by my brothers and their friends so I like to stay close to RES and the other mares. I have something called “sweet itch” which means I am allergic to insect bites. I take allergy meds and get different ointments on my belly when I have a flare up.
ROSIE’S WISH LIST:
Registered Name: PR Miss Black Deuce
DOB: 4-4-2014
Breed: Quarter Horse
I sure am happy to be back in a herd! It is great to have lots of friends to hang out with at the hay feeders. I also love a good spa day with lots of grooming to make my black coat shine! Like Baylee, I am pretty drama free, but I am not afraid to stand up for myself if one of those silly geldings tries to push me around. I sure do love to eat and go for walks on the trails!
BETTY’S WISH LIST:
